AI Marketing Newsletter #002: Services are the new software

💡 Services are the new software

Sequoia, the world's largest VC firm, just published an essay with a big claim: the next trillion-dollar company won't sell software. It'll sell services.

The logic: AI makes it possible to deliver outcomes instead of tools. Why sell a dashboard when you can sell the answer?

This has happened before.

Horses vs. tractors

Finland had 27,000 working horses in the early 1900s. By 1960, tractors replaced almost all of them. The transition took 20 years. Horses and tractors coexisted. Then they didn't.

Marketing agencies are in that 20-year window right now. The old model: 15 people, hourly billing. The new model: AI systems for repetitive work, humans for strategy.

🔧 What the new model looks like

We made the bet early. Our full operating stack:

  • Claude Code — operations, content, analysis (~EUR 1,000/mo)
  • n8n — 74 automated workflows (EUR 60/mo)
  • 12 AI-native tools — CRM, analytics, email, prospecting
  • Total: EUR 2,131/month for 14 people

That's EUR 150 per person per month. Try that with Salesforce and Adobe.

📰 This week in AI + Marketing

Sequoia: "Services are the new software." The essay that started this conversation. AI-native service companies will outperform SaaS. Read it →

Google rolls out AI ad creative at scale. Full campaign assets from product feeds. 15-20% higher CTR vs. manual creative.

Klarna cut their marketing team by 25%. Automated campaign production, copywriting, A/B testing. CPA dropped 30%.

💰 Stat of the week

24 out of 1,598. We analyzed marketing professionals at 30 major Finnish agencies. Only 24 have AI in their job title. That's 1.5%. The talent gap is real.

🔍 One thing to think about

The question isn't whether AI replaces parts of marketing operations. It's whether your team is the horse or the tractor.
